When did megalodon go extinct?

Megalodon (Otodus megalodon), the giant prehistoric shark, is believed to have gone extinct approximately 3.6 million years ago, during the Pliocene epoch. Scientists theorize that a combination of factors, such as climate change, changes in sea levels, and competition with other predators, contributed to its extinction.
